Along with the flogging with a shirt on in Dragonard, the most frustrating scene for me ever. The set up (the man whipped volunteered to take make up for previously unpunished deeds) is terrific, the specimen first rate, the build up, focus on the cat, the tension all terrific. His refusal of being bound is cute but I would have ordered it done and added some strokes for the impudence. I wonder if more was filmed and then edited out. (The plot this unit isolated and out of touch with superiors; they had a rowdy night on the town, all deserved punishment, the commander decided two examples should be chosen as examples and then move on).
