Note from the illustrator: This morning I caught the wonderful Cavelo excursion into the world of the Mayans and immediately thought of this story written by Kronmire4. Unfortunately, the story was never properly finished and many of the illustrations anticipate parts of the story not told...but, still, I thought it might be fun to re-visit. --Amalaric

It was only this past summer when three new graduates from the anthropology program at Trinity University gathered in San Antonio to discuss their upcoming doctoral thesis: "Whatever Happened to the Maya?" Led by the oldest of the three pals, Rex Goodhead, a sometimes hot-tempered six-foot blonde 20-year-old with broad shoulders, a muscular sun-baked golden physique, and the bluest eyes this side of the Caribbean, the small group was intent on journeying into the wilds of the Mexican Gulf Coast in hopes of discovering just where and why the ancient Maya indians disappeared over four hundred years ago, not long after their Spanish conquerors had subdued their leaders. Whatever they found was to be documented and turned into a scholarly paper that might --just might -- lead to exploration fame and fortune for the lads. The remaining two in the group, also in the same graduating class as the handsome Rex, were dark-haired Barney Slater and a Scottish redhead, Steve McShane. They were the same age and had the same desire for adventure as their leader. Both were well-built young stallions, always ready for action; the three had been on the university's wrestling team for the past year and while there had once scandalized their coach by sneaking into the gymnasium after hours one night to wrestle each other in the....shall we say...."Greek" fashion -- that is, completely nude. The coach let them go with a warning, as he had enjoyed watching the healthy youths grappling with each other, the sweat pouring off their superb bodies; in fact, Coach Kinney had to excuse himself for a cold shower right after chastising and dismissing the boys, muttering to himself "I'd have paddled their naked asses if my own hard-on hadn't been calling so loudly! Well, another time!"

The trio made short work of their meeting to map out their concluding plan for the Mexico trip, and they had already made their travel arrangements, readying themselves for flying into Tuxtla Gutierrez, the nearest airport in the Chiapas region, the vicinity of their quest. The following Monday all three were happily exiting the plane to be met by their local guide, Parker Davidson, who, surprisingly, was an American who had been living in Mexico and guiding various archaeological expeditions for the past year; Parker was their elder -- he was only twenty-two! He had longish-cropped brown hair, devastating bright brown eyes and a labor-seasoned body that caused his worn work shirt and jeans to bulge rather dramatically. His greeting was warm and welcome: "Glad you're here, guys. Let's get in my Jeep and start on our way -- it's a good journey to the specific jungle where you want to start your search." On the way all four men got better acquainted, and it became apparent that Parker was the perfect guide and driver for their purposes; sitting next to him on the ride was Barney, a man who was particularly taken with the boys' new companion; he purposely reached over at one point to clasp Parker's right shoulder in a firm, friendly grip, to which Parker grinned and made no complaint; that reaction led to Barney's spending the next hour or so with his strong fingers entwined in the driver's fine brown hair on the back of his head -- Rex and Steve in the back seat exchanged several amused glances while they watched Barney's antics. Oblivious to the other passengers, Barney mused to himself by entertaining one of his favorite fantasies, wondering at one point just how much fun it would be to strip Parker naked and tie him tightly between two tall trees in the jungle, then approaching the helpless lad with a stiff bamboo cane... suddenly the reverie was interrupted as Rex hollered out: "STOP HERE, PARKER! QUICKLY!" The Jeep lurched to a halt as the driver put on the brakes and turned to see what had so animated his passenger.

All four of the men were astonished by the sight they beheld -- a darker-skinned native, more than six feet tall, not an ounce of fat on his sinewy body, all of which was on display except for the tantalizing covering of his loincloth which barely clad his most intimate anatomy. The young man had to be about their age, and his strong face was surmounted by a thick, bushy crown of long, black hair -- he had to be a direct descendant of the Mayan race! Parker noticed how the other men were staring with disbelief at the native as he announced: "Oh, I almost overshot our starting point, guys -- it's a good thing Tlelcox was standing here. He's going to be our jungle specialist; he doesn't speak much English but I can translate whatever needs to be done. Say hi to him, fellas." Rex managed to stammer out the first "Hi", causing Tlelcox to turn toward him and fix his steel-black eyes intently on our Mr. Goodhead. He next walked over and extended his hand for Rex to shake; as Rex did so, he was almost overcome by the strong masculine scent emanating from Tlelcox's body, the superb torso of the native glistening with the barest sheen of perspiration and good health.

Parker chimed in at that point: "Tlelcox is from a nearby native village, and he is the best tracker I've ever found out here. Oh, don't be alarmed, Rex -- he's just never seen a blonde man before." That remark was made as Tlelcox had reached his hand out to touch Rex's hair. Rex gulped a bit but relaxed and responded: "It's okay -- I've never seen anyone quite like Tlelcox either." All laughed at that, and the men piled out of the Jeep and began placing their supplies and equipment in backpacks for their trail journey. Although the three new American scholars were also busy exchanging furtive glances at the magnificent body of their new native guide, they failed to notice that they, too, were being watched -- from the jungle only a hundred yards away. As they all headed out on the trail, they also missed a signaling glance from Tlelcox to those unseen watchers in the woods!
